Chronic Illness and Pain

People who live with chronic health conditions, pain, and/or fatigue often experience worsened mental health outcomes, struggle feeling understood, and have to develop different self-advocacy skills compared to physically abled counterparts. Our work can support you manage your symptoms, overcome barriers to effective diagnosis and treatment, and navigate a seemingly uncaring world. Additionally, a common place of growth with clients who experience chronic health concerns is increasing daily functioning while accommodating real limitations and minimizing shame.

Team Based Approach

An effective and communicative care team is extremely helpful support structure for those living with chronic illness. I am committed to communicating with:

  • Medical providers to collaborate with or advocate on your behalf

  • Family, loved ones, and caregivers to integrate skills and systems we create in therapy

  • Work and/or school to implement accommodations

Pain Management

While chronic pain is a physiological symptom there is significant research that psychotherapy can decrease reported levels of pain and disability. The evidence-based approaches that I utilize to help manage chronic pain are mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and somatic experiencing. Additionally, psychoeducation on the mechanics and impacts of chronic pain seems to have a positive impact on a person’s capacity for coping with chronic pain.
